PETALING JAYA: Penang police have recorded the statements of eight people to assist in its probe into a message apparently mocking Islam printed on a customer’s receipt from Domino’s Pizza Malaysia.
Barat Daya police chief Kamarul Rizal Jenal said two of the eight were workers at the fast food chain.
“Further investigations are ongoing. We are still tracking down the person who wrote the words under the ‘remarks’ section of the food order,” he said, according to Bernama.
The case is being probed under Section 298 of the Penal Code for uttering words with deliberate intent to wound religious feelings, and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act for using insulting words with intent to provoke a breach of the peace.
The controversy started on Wednesday after a picture of the receipt from a Domino’s Pizza outlet in Penang went viral on social media.
Domino’s later lodged a police report and claimed the message was placed by a customer when placing an order.
The pizza chain said it had also taken “appropriate” action against its staff member for sharing the receipt online with the customer’s personal information.
