Microsoft To Discontinue Paint 3D App This November

0

Paint 3D is set to be discontinued, just seven years after its debut. Now, opening the app shows a banner stating that Paint 3D will be removed from the Microsoft Store and will no longer receive updates starting 4 November 2024.

Initially introduced as the modern successor to the Microsoft Paint app, Paint 3D was designed with a focus on 3D modelling and introduced several new features such as layers, transparency effects, background removal, and PNG support. Despite these advancements, the app faced backlash from users who preferred the original Microsoft Paint, leading Microsoft to keep both versions available on Windows 10 and 11.

In 2023, Microsoft upgraded the Paint app with features previously unique to Paint 3D, including layers, transparency, and auto background removal. Additionally, Microsoft Paint received an AI-enhanced feature called Cocreator, available to Microsoft Copilot users.

Microsoft Paint, while less powerful than advanced applications like GIMP or Adobe Photoshop, remains a vital part of the Windows experience. On that note, it seems logical for Microsoft to consolidate the sought-after features of Paint 3D into the classic Paint app and discontinue the former.
