Watches are more than just timepieces – oftentimes, they are a brand’s time capsules; canvases that stretch out to showcase the brand’s legacy, reaching all the way to the modern day.

These two featured new releases are cases in point. They are more than just wristwatches; they are historic creations that are meant to stand the test of time.

Porsche Chronograph 1 – F.A.T. 2025 Edition

Porsche is known for many things, most notably, for creating among the most exquisite cars on the market. The German automobile company largely prides itself on its designs, creating vehicles that are as stunning as they are powerful. The company is so proud of its design language, that it’s decided to take it and apply it elsewhere, including watches.

Surprisingly enough, the move has paid off. These Porsche-designed timepieces are a massive success; a good example of this is the Chronograph 1, released in 1972. It was a pioneer watch inspired by the Porsche 911 and is widely loved to this day. Which is why it’s making a comeback with the Chronograph 1 – F.A.T. 2025 Edition.

The latest iteration is the embodiment of Porsche’s racing career and success. The iconic Porsche 962 silhouette can be seen on the hour counter in the dark, and the subdial at six of the clock has a hidden “9,” “6,” and “2” that are all references to the winning race car. By substituting “FAT” in distinctive red for “SAT” and “SUN,” the day display further reflects the influence of FAT International and turns weekends into race weekends.

Made of ultra-light titanium and featuring a matte black titanium carbide coating, the watch matches the Porsche 962’s aerodynamic elegance. The COSC-certified Porsche Design calibre WERK 01.240, which has a flyback function and is ideal for accurate lap timing, powers it.

Numerous straps are included with the chronograph, including a purple textile-and-leather “F.A.T. Mankei Strap” inspired by Porsche’s famed Grossglockner High Alpine Road; and a white textile band bearing a FAT Ice Race badge.

The Chronograph 1 – F.A.T. 2025 Edition is available for purchase via Porsche Design’s online store for US$11,500 (~RM50,904) and at select retail locations.

Piaget Polo Flying Tourbillon Moonphase

With its all-gold construction, the Piaget Polo watch, which debuted in 1979, has been a shining example of watchmaking. The model has developed further, with an ultra-thin perpetual calendar in 2023, and a brilliant skeleton movement in 2021. By fusing an astronomical moonphase display with a flying tourbillon, the reference returns to the forefront of watchmaking innovation for 2025, all while sporting Piaget’s signature blue hue.

The Piaget Polo Flying Tourbillon Moonphase is a technical marvel in addition to a visual wonder. It is powered by the incredibly-thin 642P in-house movement, which is only 4mm thick and has an overall thickness of 9.8mm. This watch has a titanium case that is 44mm in diameter and a combination of satin-brushed and polished finishes. In order to create a tonal aesthetic with the dial and signature gadroons, blue PVD is poured over the rehaut and crown insert.

Piaget has created a new version of its 600P, building on its history as a manufacturer of complex calibres. With a beautifully-designed tourbillon cage, the hand-wound 642P preserves both the flying tourbillon and the ultra-thin architecture. Piaget’s technical accuracy is demonstrated by the moonphase mechanism that is highlighted.

Although the Earth and its satellite’s cycles are somewhat out of sync due to their different speeds, the Maison’s experience guarantees that it would take 122 years for the display and the real night sky to diverge by one day. It is simple to fix this misalignment by using the moon display adjuster at nine o’clock.

The rubber strap is interchangeable and comes in blue to match the watch’s colour scheme. There is also an extra crocskin leather strap in a matching colourway.

The Piaget Polo Flying Tourbillon Moonphase Watch retails for RM439,000. For more information, visit Piaget’s official website.
