Ar. Esmonde Yap is both a Registered Architect and Interior Designer with the Board of Architects Malaysia (LAM) and a Corporate Member of The Malaysian Institute of Architects (PAM) since 2018.
He read architecture at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in Sydney, and graduated with a Bachelor of Architectural Studies in 2012 and Master of Architecture in 2014. At UNSW, he had the opportunity to study under Glenn Murcutt, a Pritzker Prize Winner, and was tutored by his Associate, Wendy Lewin.
Under the tutorage of Murcutt and Lewin, Esmonde’s graduation project entitled “Recovery of the Fallen Horizon” was shortlisted as one of top 10 winners for PAM’s Tan Sri Chan Sau Lai Architecture Award 2013 and was amongst one of top 40 most voted projects on Next Landmark International Competition.
Esmonde will be sharing the design principles and values he learnt from Murcutt, which are to create architecture of place that responds to the landscape and climate by using natural elements such as the sun, light and shadow, wind, and water in working out the details of how a building works in response to its environment.
