KUALA LUMPUR: National sprint sensation Azeem Mohd Fahmi produced another show of speed to help his Auburn University men’s 4x100m quartet to victory in the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational Athletics Championships 2024 in Gainesville, Florida, on Saturday.
Azeem, winner of the men’s 100m bronze at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games in China, and his teammates – Favour Ashe, Dario Matau and Kanyinsola Ajayi – clocked 38.64s, their season’s best time, to clinch gold, according to
The Louisiana State University quartet of Myles Thomas, Shakeem McKay, Da’Marcus Fleming and Godson Oghenebrume came in second in 38.93s.
The University of Kentucky, represented by Shavique Bascus, Clinton Muunga, Miles Jones and Kennedy Lightner, settled for bronze after clocking 38.96s.
It was Azeem’s second win with the Auburn University quartet in the past month, having also emerged victorious with a time of 38.74s at the Yellow Jacket Invitational Championships in Georgia Tech, Georgia.
However, Azeem, 19, failed to turn on the style in the 100m event in Florida when he could only finish seventh in his heat, after clocking 10.44s to be placed 22nd out of 75 runners.
He had clocked 10.38s en route to winning bronze at the Yellow Jacket Invitational last month.
