Bursa raised RM3.5bil in listings last year

Bursa Malaysia saw 35 new listings last year, the highest number since 2006.

KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia Bhd raised RM3.49 billion from both primary and secondary listings last year, a 27% increase over the RM2.75 billion raised in 2021.

The exchange said this included 35 new listings, the highest since 2006, where a total of RM11.15 billion was raised, contributing to the overall market capitalisation of RM1.74 trillion.

In a statement today, Bursa Malaysia said the retail segment continued to be a significant contributor, accounting for 25% of the total average daily value.

“The retail market works together and complements the institutional market to generate volume that the Malaysian equity market needs.

“A healthy equity market ecosystem is paramount to ensure there is strong liquidity in circulation,” Bursa Malaysia CEO Muhamad Umar Swift said.

Meanwhile, the exchange said it presented 77 awards to the winners of the Retail Investor Campaign 2022 at an awards ceremony recently.

It said the highest number of awards went to Malacca Securities Sdn Bhd with 22 awards, including four top broker awards, CGS-CIMB Securities Sdn Bhd with 15 awards while Hong Leong Investment Bank Bhd, RHB Investment Bank Bhd and Maybank Investment Bank Bhd won six awards each.
