A 19-year-old guy was recently working his usual job as a salesboy, at the AEON mall in Kulai, Johor when something unexpected and unpleasant happened. He was not only stalked by a stranger on the mall’s grounds, he was also sexually harassed.
Reportedly, the incident occurred on 11th March around 9:50pm. At the time, the young man had decided to make a trip to the toilet, only to realise a man was following him. To his horror, the man then asked him to touch his privates.
The young man had opted to go to the toilet then as it was near the mall’s closing time, hence there were less people about. As such, he was alone when another man, supposedly 20 years old, entered the toilet after him. He didn’t think much of it until he was done relieving himself. “(The other man) saw that I was about to wash my hands and stopped peeing, which I found strange,” he recalled.
“He ran up to the sink beside me, and kept trying to get closer. He asked me where I was from, saying I looked like a foreigner,” the salesboy recollected. “I answered him politely and then I left.” To his surprise, the man followed him out, supposedly “looking horny”. The man then directly asked him: “Can I touch you?“, even extending a hand out towards his lower body.
Feeling uncomfortable and concerned, the salesboy gave him a fierce look and quickly walked to a place with people. Once he was a safe distance away, the salesboy pulled his phone out to video the guy, however, the other ran away once he discovered he was being filmed.
The salesboy shared that he has not reported the incident to the police as the other man did not actually touch him, and the footage he had of the man was not very clear. Still, he later made a post on Facebook to warn others of the incident.
Many netizens voiced their concern over the matter, with others urging their friends to be cautious in the mall. A few claimed it wasn’t the first time, adding that the mall’s security wasn’t the best either. Well, we sincerely hope mall-goers will keep themselves safe!
