Chery Tiggo Cross HEV to debut in Malaysia in May with new CSH full hybrid system – 201 hp, 310 Nm

Last year, Chery Malaysia confirmed that the Tiggo 4 would be launched here in the first quarter of 2025. While that didn’t happen, the A-segment SUV’s arrival is still on the cards and looks set to take place as soon as next month.

Recently, our sister site paultan.org/BM participated in the Chery Super Hybrid Exploration Tour in the company’s home city of Wuhu in China, and it was revealed that we are set to welcome the Tiggo 4 (also known as the Tiggo Cross in certain markets) with Chery Super Hybrid (CSH) technology as part of the company’s 2025 new vehicle launch plan.

On a display board, the Chery Tiggo 4 HEV is shown to arrive in Malaysia in May 2025. A check with a local Chery Malaysia representative indicates that the compact SUV will indeed be in Malaysia then, albeit for an official preview rather than a launch. The representative added that the model will be known as the Tiggo Cross for our market.

The Tiggo 4 has been touted for Malaysia for some time now, first during a media preview back in October 2022 and later in the latest 2024 facelift version in April 2024. It competes against other models in its size class like the Perodua Ativa and Honda WR-V.

In terms of powertrain, the Tiggo 4 HEV comes with a G4G15B 1.5 litre naturally-aspirated inline-four petrol engine running on the Atkinson cycle and with a thermal efficiency of 40%. It alone makes 97 hp and 118 Nm and is paired with a Direct Hybrid Transmission (DHT) that is an electronic CVT, with the full hybrid portion coming in the form of two electric motors providing 201 hp and 310 Nm integrated into the DHT150 unit.

The electric motors draw power from a 1.83-kWh battery, with the entire setup claimed to achieve a fuel consumption as low as 5.4 l/100 km and a combined hybrid range of up to 1,000 km. The petrol engine and two motors are able to drive the vehicle independently.

We expect the Tiggo 4’s reveal to take place at the Malaysia Autoshow 2025 (MAS 2025) that will be opened to the public from May 9-15.
