Perak police chief Noor Hisam Nordin said the police’s concerns revolved around ‘external parties’ coming to Ayer Kuning to campaign for the candidates.
TAPAH: Perak police have identified several figures who are likely to spark provocation ahead of the two-week campaign for the Ayer Kuning by-election which starts tomorrow.
Perak police chief Noor Hisam Nordin said these individuals are not barred from attending any campaign event but are advised to abide by the law, particularly regarding the 3R (race, religion and royalty) issues.
Noor Hisam said the police’s concerns revolved around “external parties” coming to Ayer Kuning to campaign for the candidates.
“They have the right to attend any event throughout the campaign period. We have also identified several ‘hot’ localities and coordinated several measures to prevent any unwanted incident,” he told a press conference at the Tapah police headquarters today.
He said 744 police personnel will be deployed to keep watch during nominations for the by-election tomorrow, and 1,114 will be on duty during polling on April 26.
Barisan Nasional is fielding Tapah Umno secretary Yusri Bakir for the by-election, while Abdul Muhaimin Malek of PAS will represent Perikatan Nasional. Parti Sosialis Malaysia will field Bawani KS.
The by-election was called following the death of Ishsam Shahruddin of BN on Feb 22.
