KUALA LUMPUR: The number of dengue fever cases reported in the 48th epidemiological week from Nov 28 to Dec 3 rose 11.6% to 1,935 compared to 1,734 the week earlier.
Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were two deaths from dengue fever complications during the week.
He said the total number of dengue fever cases to date this year stood at 58,239 compared with 24,049 during the same period last year, an increase of 142.2%, with 39 deaths compared with 19 previously.
“Fifty-three hotspots have been reported (during the past epidemiological week) compared with 54 localities the week before, with 24 hotspots in Selangor, 16 in Sabah, 10 in Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, and one each in Penang, Perak and Sarawak,” he said in a statement today.
Hisham said there were 21 chikungunya cases during the week with 20 in Penang and one in Selangor.
He said the accumulative number of chikungunya cases to date is 731.
“For surveillance on zika, a total of 2,003 blood samples and 17 urine samples were screened and the results were all negative,” he said.
