PETALING JAYA: An opposition leader in Sabah has called on the state government to emulate Sarawak and implement the Dual Language Programme (DLP) so that Mathematics and Science can be taught in English.
In a statement, Warisan vice-president Junz Wong said there was a need to implement the DLP without delay to ensure Sabah students were not left at a disadvantage.
“It’s imperative that we adopt a proactive approach towards this essential educational reform. Our children’s ability to thrive in a global economy depends on their proficiency in global languages like English.”

English will also be used to teach Additional Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
Wong said he was concerned over the lack of a detailed plan for DLP adoption in Sabah, asking the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah-led state government to elevate its commitment to the education sector.
“We cannot afford to take our education system for granted. It is time for the GRS government to step up and outline a detailed and actionable plan for integrating English in the teaching of Science and Mathematics,” the Tanjung Aru assemblyman said.
