Date nights are wonderful, because we get to spend time with our significant other. But we’re usually stressed out by the dreaded question, “Where or what should we eat?”. If you’re looking for a spot to impress your loved one, or a quiet and romantic venue that won’t burn a hole in your pocket, then we have just the place for you.
Check out Little Salty Café, a hilltop eatery in a, well, bizarre location. It’s housed inside a real estate development building, and since it’s sort of hidden, locating it might be a struggle. But if you’re familiar with the lookout point in Ampang, then finding this place shouldn’t be a problem, because it’s in the area. A great thing about this café is that there’s ample parking space. You also won’t need to worry about safety, as there’s a guard at the entrance.
Indoor And Outdoor Seating
Due to its location at Ampang Hill, which provides diners with a panoramic view of KL, Little Salty Café has earned praise as a romantic destination for couples wishing to dine out at a casual, yet scenic venue. The café has both an indoor and outdoor dining area, so we suggest going outside to the alfresco section. It operates from 4pm onwards, but we recommend that you head there at around 7pm, as you’ll fall in love with the ambiance right away, thanks to the outdoor balcony’s sparkling fairy lights and dazzling skyscrapers that make up KL’s skyline. If you love watching sunsets, then head there early. The view is definitely worth it.
Mindful of Malaysia’s rainy and hot tropical climate, The Salty Cafe’s alfresco eating area has retractable roofs, as well as a permanent shaded dining area. So whether it’s sunny or rainy, you can choose to have tea or dinner at this beautiful café on the hilltops. In addition to couples, small groups would also feel right at home. Best to avoid bringing in a big group, as the seats are limited, and the dining period for each booking is also limited.
The view, as mentioned, is just amazing. We went there at around 7pm and the sky was just beautiful. From blue to orange and sometimes pinkish-purple, almost every day, the sky can be seen painted in various, vibrant colours. The weather was great too. Despite being by the roadside and with a view of KL city, the cafe has a quiet and calming atmosphere. You can barely hear noises of vehicles, which makes the dining experience even better. Another thing we like about this café is the staff, who were super friendly. They assisted us with our enquiries on the menu.
Little Salty Cafe is also a great spot for taking aesthetic photos. One area is obviously the balcony. Another spot we liked is right at the entrance. They have a neon sign of the café and a vintage bicycle.
What We Had
Of course, the Little Salty Café offers more than just breathtaking views. Although their menu isn’t that extensive, they do offer a small selection of dishes ranging from spaghetti and grills, to cakes and pastries. Since there were only two of us, we didn’t order much. We started of with a pretty drink called the Dreamz Lemonade. Although it’s just lemonade, we loved how creative they got by making the beverage look too pretty to drink. Check out the dreamy purple hues!
For mains, we ordered the Grilled Chicken Chop and Hawaiian Chicken Cheese Baked Rice. The grilled chicken was served with black pepper sauce, mashed potato and steamed veggies. Presentation-wise, the plate looked simple – but when it came to taste, it was simply amazing. The grilled chicken was cooked to perfection. We weren’t expecting much, seeing that it’s a small café, but the food was pretty amazing. Even the black pepper sauce was delicious. The mashed potato was boiled perfectly, making it smooth and creamy.
The Hawaiian Cheese Baked Rice was the bomb! It was cheesy, buttery and full of flavour, with lots of cheese on top of the rice and chicken. There were even hints of pineapple in the meal. It was definitely a warm and hearty dish to have. Although we only ordered two mains from their menu, we can say they were satisfying, and we went home with a full tummy. To end our meal, we ordered Iced Latte. Cause’ why not? There are also all sorts of cakes and pastries for dessert, but we brought our own birthday cake so we didn’t order any. Next time, definitely!
Reservation
As tempting as this spot sounds, you can’t just walk in. You’ll need to make reservations, which we think is a good idea. You can make a reservation by clicking this link. Fill in the date, time, number of pax and preferred seating area to comfirm your spot. This café allows a maximum of 8 pax per group and a maximum of 90 minutes dining time. To order you meal, you’ll be given a QR code upon arrival. Just scan and order away!
Overall, we had an amazing time at The Salty Cafe. Dinner with a view is difficult to turn down, especially when doing so is not expensive. With affordable Western dishes served up alongside expansive views of KL’s spectacular skyline, Little Salty Café checks all the boxes.
