Many parts of the Klang Valley and neighbouring regions continued to report unhealthy air quality today.
KUALA LUMPUR: The meteorological department does not expect the haze in parts of the country to be prolonged because of frequent changes in wind direction, the Dewan Rakyat was told.
However, if the haze persists and air quality worsens, cloud seeding might be carried out to produce rain, said Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, the minister for natural resources, environment and climate change.
He said his ministry had already taken steps at the start of the year to prepare for the possibility of haze.
Unhealthy air quality was recorded again in many parts of the Klang Valley today, with Cheras reporting the highest air pollutant index reading of 165, followed by Klang (153), Banting (152), Shah Alam (143), Petaling Jaya (105) and Johan Setia (105), in Selangor.
Other areas affected were: Bukit Rambal (156) and Alor Gajah (103) in Melaka; Batu Pahat, Johor (153), and Seremban, Negeri Sembilan (109).
