Considering the Jaecoo J7? If you’ve been seeing it ‘everywhere’ these days and have been having thoughts, here’s a carrot in the form of low interest rates and free service. Omoda Jaecoo’s May 2025 promotion is dangling five years of free service or interest rates from as low as 0.8% per annum. You can choose one of the perks, and it’s available for both the RM138,800 2WD or the RM148,800 AWD.

Both come with a 1.6-litre turbo-four with 194 hp and 290 Nm of torque, hooked up to a seven-speed wet dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The lighter front-wheel drive version is seven tenths quicker to the 100 km/h mark at 9.2 seconds, which is a plus point for the 2WD.

Kit wise, both share the same long list of standard equipment. The exterior sports 19-inch two-tone alloys (red brake calipers peeking through), LED front and rear lights (full width at the back, of course) and a powered tailgate. Inside, the J7 gets leather seats, dual-zone climate control with N95 air purifier, a 50W cooled wireless charger, 64-colour ambient lighting and a panoramic sunroof.

Also on the list are a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14.8-inch vertical infotainment touchscreen, head-up display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, eight Sony speakers, auto-dimming rear-view mirror, ‘boss switches’ for the front passenger seat, heated/ventilated front seats with memory, keyless entry, remote start with cabin climate pre-conditioning and rear privacy glass, among other items.

Launched in February, the J7 PHEV has a hybrid-specific version of the Omoda 5’s 1.5-litre turbo engine. Here, it makes 141 hp and 215 Nm of torque – paired with a 204 PS/310 Nm electric motor and a single-speed dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT), total output of the Super Hybrid System (SHS) is 347 PS and 525 Nm.

That’s a big jump from the regular J7’s 194 hp/290 Nm, but the PHEV’s main selling point is fuel economy. Jaecoo claims petrol consumption of 4.77 litres per 100 km (NEDC) when the battery is depleted (at the minimum 20% SoC). More in our review.

The J7 PHEV is available in a single high-spec variant, priced at RM158,800. The factory warranty is for seven years or 150,000 km, and there’s a separate eight-year or 160,000 km warranty for the PHEV battery, motor and controller unit.

In the May 2025 promo, Omoda Jaecoo is offering a 10-year or one million km warranty for the battery and engine, and you can top up just RM3,000 for five years or service and maintenance. This promotion is from now till May 31.
