His Royal Highness Major General Tunku Ismail Ibni Sultan Ibrahim, Crown Prince of Johor, is known to speak his mind on certain issues. Last year, many suspected that he threw shade at Syed Saddiq after the young politician was charged with corruption.
Prior to that, he also called for Datuk Dr Daud Bakar, Kedah Darul Aman Football Club’s owner to advise a certain political figure. Yesterday (Thursday, 29th February), netizens suspected that the Johor Prince had another beef with someone of royal status regarding football. Here’s what actually happened:
Last night, His Royal Highness Major General Tunku Ismail Ibni Sultan Ibrahim, fondly known as TMJ, posted a photo on Instagram with a caption that reads, “He’s a man, he’s a ghost, he’s a guru. They’re whispering his name through this disappearing land, but hidden in his coat is a red right HAND,” The caption written were lyrics from the song “Red Right Hand” by 80s rock band Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds.
The post also included the hashtag #thegameisrigged #whatcanyoudo and what caught many people’s attention was that the first comment was left by Tengku Salehuddin Shah Alhaj, a member of the Selangor Royal family. The comment reads, “Play with fire, you get burned’🔥” to which the Johor Prince replied with, “You want war, I give you war. More to come”. It was assumed that the two were talking about which football team would win in the upcoming Liga Super match.
The interaction led netizens to suspect that the two have some sort of beef with each other after it was shared by the Selangor Power Sampai Kiamat Twitter page. Some commented that the two royals were acting childish for arguing on social media while others were simply there for the entertainment. Fret not though as the duo are probably just pulling each other’s leg.
If you didn’t know, TMJ and Tengku Salehuddin or Tengku Bib are cousins and it’s normal for them to get competitive about their respective state’s football clubs. As seen in the comments above, many joined in on this “war” by giving inputs on which football team is better; Selangor Football Club (FC) or Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) FC?
TMJ himself is a major football fan and he has managed the Johor Darul Ta’zim football club for 10 years before stepping down back in 2022. So there you have it, there is no beef or “war”, just friendly banter. Which teams are you rooting for in the upcoming match?
