The death of beloved South Korean idol Goo Hara (구하라) was one that deeply saddened fans all around the world. Years after her death, the star returned to the spotlight after the BBC documentary revealed that she had helped with investigations in the Burning Sun case. Now, netizens are helping to solve another case in her name – the star’s missing safe.

To recap, the late KARA member passed away in November 2019. Unfortunately, a burglar broke into her home a couple of months after her death and stole her safe. According to reports, the safe contained Hara’s belongings, including her old phones. However, her older brother emptied the safe before the incident. The phones allegedly contained evidence of the individuals involved in the Burning Sun scandal. Unfortunately, police could not identify any suspects in the case and closed the investigation in December 2020.

However, the South Korean investigative series “Unanswered Question” recently shared new developments. The show put together a facial composite of the suspect from the CCTV footage provided by Hara’s brother and released details about the burglar. According to the show, the burglar is estimated to be around 175-180cm and was in his late 20s or early 30s at the time of the crime. “Unanswered Questions” also urged the public to help identify any potential suspects.

Based on the facial composite and the details provided, netizens deduced that a potential suspect was rapper Zico (지코). The 32-year-old had previously faced public scrutiny for his alleged involvement in the Burning Sun case because of his friendship with Jung Joon-young (정준영). Zico had also once spoken about Joon-young’s “golden phone” which allegedly held contacts, images and videos of his victims. Following the allegations, many began flooding the star’s social media with comments questioning his involvement in the case.

In response, Zico’s agency, KOZ Entertainment, released a statement to deny the rumours. The management company also announced that it will take legal action against those who spread malicious rumours about the rapper. Some netizens have also defended Zico, saying the allegations are groundless.
