Fresh off his double podiums in the Red Bull Rookies Cup race last month, young Malaysian racer Hakim Danish came in second in the Junior GP race over the weekend. A third place in qualifying allowed Hakim, riding for SIC Racing – MSI team, to start on the front row of the grid in the race at Circuit do Estoril, Portugal.
The race was won by Brian Uriarte of Spain while Hakim had a hard fought battle for second place with Ireland’s Casey O’Gorman and Finland’s Rico Salmela. The tussle for second went all the way down to the last lap, with Hakim leading the chasing pack into Turn 4.
An attempted overtake by O’Gorman attempted on Salmela did not work out as intended, resulting in a crash. This left the door open for Hakim to take the second place to the finish line, with his podium win giving him second in the championship standings, just five points behind Uriarte.
The second round of the FIM JuniorGP World Championship will take place from 31 May to 1 June 2025 at the Jerez Circuit in Spain. Before that, Hakim will head to France, where he will compete in the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup at Le Mans from 9 to 11 May 2025.
