Melaka Umno chief Ab Rauf Yusoh said the rumours about him eyeing the chief minister’s post held by Sulaiman Md Ali is an attempt by an individual with vested interest.
MELAKA: State Umno chairman Ab Rauf Yusoh has hit out at certain people who he claims are driving a wedge between him and Melaka chief minister Sulaiman Md Ali by spreading malicious rumours about their relationship.
Declaring that only death could separate them, Ab Rauf said rumours about him possibly taking over as chief minister from Sulaiman was nothing more than a slanderous attempt by an individual with vested interest.
“Please stop such slander because we are monitoring the movement of those who play up such issues that affect the state government. Our relationship is one of good friendship,” Bernama reported him as saying in a clip posted on the Facebook page of Barisan Nasional Masjid Tanah
Ab Rauf said he and Sulaiman had pledged that whatever happens, there would be no secrets between them, adding that the current rumours are an embarrassment to the state where the government had a mandate of more than a two-thirds majority.
“It is very unfortunate that there are leaders who spew slander to create disunity between us, and also with Datuk Kamarulzaman Jantan (Umno Masjid Tanah committee). I urge such leaders to stop this because only death can separate us,” he said.
Sulaiman said the people must entertain never ending rumours that are baseless. He said the people must be concerned with issues raised by such groups to disrupt the peace and harmony enjoyed all this while.
“All three of us have been good friends for a long time,” he said in the same video clip.
