Miss Hong Kong 2023 (香港小姐競選) held their finals on Sunday (27th August) with Hilary Chong (庄子璇) being crowned winner. However, while the pageant may be over, the drama certainly isn’t.
The girls have seemingly let loose after being released from their duties as Miss Hong Kong participants, and it isn’t pretty. From Zora Chen (陈怡名) finally lashing out at netizens to Hanna Ng (胡睿涵) snubbing Hilary for her win, they’ve seemed to have fallen into a free-for-all!

While the girls initially held their tongues for the sake of the pageant, it seems that since it’s officially over, some of them aren’t bothering to maintain their poise and image anymore. Zora Chen definitely took the opportunity to retaliate against netizens for all their comments about her, especially after they blasted her for her alleged “rude” remarks.
After netizens rebuked her for her thunderous look during the pageant finals, Zora responded with a warning. “Now, this is my own Instagram. (I’m) no longer Miss Hong Kong No.14, don’t mess with me,” she reportedly declared on her socials after the pageant. “Judge for yourselves whether something (you see) in the camera is true or false. Don’t come here and scold me.”
Zora has since been busy responding to different individuals calling her out on her character. She retorted to those who reprimanded her for mixing simplified and traditional Chinese characters and retaliated against those who implied she supported breaking the rules, especially after a fan claimed they got Instagram, which is banned in China, specifically to follow her.

Despite her words and tone being sharp, some appreciate her for being real. Unfortunately, according to the other girls, the same apparently can’t be said for Hilary Chong. After the pageant, 18-year-old Hanna Ng uploaded a simple photo, reportedly to her Instagram, which caught netizens’ eyes.
The odd photo of hand holding a plastic bag was accompanied by the phrase “I can pretend to be like you“. As there had been rumours that Hilary was a pretender and two-faced, and as the character for pretend “裝 (zhuāng)” sounds like Hilary’s family name, netizens assumed Hanna was referring to her.
Hanna later added a statement, saying: “No comment“, while Jenny Jiang (姜依宁) left the “😌 ” emoji in the comments. Based on their reactions, netizens were certain they had something against Hilary. But, others added oil to the fire when they pointed out that neither of them had won Miss Hong Kong.

Well, we can’t deny that tensions are still running high among the girls after everything. However, we sincerely hope they will be able to resolve their issues peacefully.
