PETALING JAYA: National football legend Khalid Ali has passed away at the age of 66 after almost a year battling lung cancer. He was diagnosed with lung cancer last year in April.
Arena Metro reported that news of Khalid’s death was confirmed by his stepbrother, Datuk Zainal Abidin Hassan.
Khalid, who was one of the key players in Malaysia’s success in qualifying for the 1980 Moscow Olympic Games. However, Malaysia did not take part in the Moscow Games in protest of the then Soviet Union invading Afghanistan in 1979.
