No double standards in parking enforcement, SOP prohibits clamping of vehicles with occupants – DBKL

Following the circulation of a social media post where a motorist questioned the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) for its consistency of enforcing vehicle clamping for parking offences, DBKL has issued a response on its Facebook page.

The clamping of the vehicle – a Perodua Bezza – was carried out in accordance to the council’s standard operating procedure (SOP), and there is no preferential treatment involved, said DBKL. The council stated that 13 vehicles were clamped on the day of the operation, including the Bezza depicted in the social media post.

It is the council’s SOP that prohibits the clamping of vehicles which are occupied by their drivers, and in the case of other vehicles which were also shown as parked on the roadside, not within a designated parking space, its personnel have instructed the driver to remove their vehicle from the location, DBKL stated.

“The action was conducted fairly and transparently. The clamping of the Perodua Bezza, which was filmed by the vehicle owner, took place at 1:09pm, with the clamp being removed at 1:30pm. Our officers had instructed drivers present in their vehicles to move them from the area,” the council wrote in its statement.

According to DBKL, it remains committed to ensuring justice and consistency in its enforcement actions, and it emphasised that all measures are carried out impartially and without bias. “The enforcement efforts are aimed at maintaining the safety, comfort, and order of the city for all residents,” DBKL said.
