Op Lancar to run until January 2, 2025 to reduce congestion – traffic dispersal to apply to major routes

The Bukit Aman traffic investigation and enforcement department (JSPT) has commenced Op Lancar today to address increased traffic flow during the festive season and the year-end school holiday, the department has announced.

Op Lancar will run until January 2, and it aims to reduce traffic congestion by employing traffic dispersal measures on major routes, while ensuring the safety of highway users, Bukit Aman JSPT director Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said in a statement.

“JSPT is aware of increased traffic volume and congestion on the North-South Expressway (PLUS), the East Coast Expressway (LPT), and other highways, as well as on federal and state roads,” the department director said. A total of 2,752 personnel will be deployed for the latest

The JSPT director noted that highway operator PLUS Malaysia estimated that 2.12 million vehicles will be using major expressways daily during the Christmas and New Year holiday period, and that light vehicles will be granted toll-free passage from December 23 to 24.

In light of the increased traffic load, Mohd Yusri urged all motorists to adhere to traffic regulations, including observing speed limits, refraining from driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and complying with traffic signals.

Mohd Yusri called on members of the public to plan their journeys carefully and stay informed about weather conditions and traffic flow before setting out, while calling on drivers to ensure that their vehicles are in a safe and well-maintained condition.

“Employers and commercial vehicle drivers are encouraged to plan their routes, prioritising the use of federal and state roads, to help reduce congestion on major highways nationwide,” he added.
