PETALING JAYA: PAS information chief Khairil Nizam Khirudin has denied that Perikatan Nasional is involved in a ‘Black Wave’ silent protest against Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on Dec 18 and 19, ahead of the confidence motion in the Dewan Rakyat on his leadership.
“This ‘Black Wave’ is not from PN,” he said briefly when contacted.
FMT has also reached out to several Bersatu leaders for comment.
Flyers have been circulating on social media calling for a peaceful protest against Anwar, stating that the protest would not threaten public order as it would not be a street protest.
Instead, it calls for those who do not support Anwar to wear black clothes and change their social media profile pictures to a black background on Dec 18 and 19 with the hope of sending a message to MPs. It also encouraged the use of a hashtag titled “tidakpercaya” (no confidence) on social media.
The confidence motion on Anwar’s leadership will be the eighth item on the agenda of the Dewan Rakyat’s first session scheduled for two days from Dec 19.
On Sunday, Anwar said a confidence vote would allow him to lead the country effectively with a clear mandate, even though such a vote was not required as he already had a clear majority in the Dewan Rakyat.
He said the matter was clarified during his recent audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah.
