PETALING JAYA: Police have rescued three victims, including a 12-year-old girl, believed to have been held as sex slaves in several raids in Keningau, Sabah, on Thursday.
The other two victims were women, aged 19 and 30.
Keningau police chief Yampil Anak Garai said three men, suspected of involvement in human trafficking, were arrested in the raids.
Police also seized RM785 as well as seven mobile phones and condoms.
Yampil said early investigations found that one of the three suspects, a 44-year-old man, played the role of “runner” or “transporter”.
His task was to send the women to clients, while the other two suspects searched for clients on social media.
They avoided detection by moving from one place to another, lodging at homestays and hotels, Yampil said in a statement.
The case is being investigated under the Anti-Trafficking In Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act (Atipsom) 2007.
