KOTA BHARU: Three sisters died of electrocution in front of a flooded house in Kampung Bendang Surau near Morak here this morning.
Kelantan police said Noor Fathiah Nadzir, 27; Sakinah Nadzir, 29, and Nurul Syazwani Nadzir, 33, died at the scene at around 11.30am.
“All three victims were said to be wading through floodwaters in front of a house. One of the sisters slipped and grabbed a pillar and was electrocuted. Her sisters came to her aid but also succumbed to the same fate,” said state police chief Zaki Harun.
“Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) has been informed to cut off electricity supply to the incident area and to carry out further action,” Zaki said.
The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has advised members of the public to respect the privacy of the family and stop spreading a video clip about the sisters’ death.
MCMC said it would bring the matter to the attention of social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and TikTok to curb the spread of the video clip.
Social media users were urged to lodge a report about the sensitive content of the incident because such contents are not suitable for public viewing.
TNB said it is conducting a follow-up investigation, in cooperation with authorities such as the Energy Commission and the police.
The power utility reminded the public not to approach or touch electrical installations that were submerged in water for fear of current leakage.
