When a business gets hit with a scandal, it’s normal to have the brand come out and release an apology to the public. However, netizens aren’t happy with the apology of local entrepreneur Beautrice Mok, who faced scrutiny for selling products containing mercury.

According to reports, Beautrice is one of the distributors for Molly Care, a beauty product brand. In February, the Health Ministry banned a Molly Care night cream after tests found it contained mercury. As Beautrice had sold the cream to many of her customers, it’s understandable that she faced scrutiny from the public. However, the entrepreneur didn’t immediately address the issue, evoking anger from the affected customers.

A month after the news about Molly Care surfaced, Beautrice finally took to Instagram to apologise for unknowingly selling the mercury-laced face cream. In her video, the social media personality explained that she didn’t respond to the issue immediately because she wanted to find out the truth about the product before addressing it publicly. She also said she didn’t know the product was unsafe and claimed to use the cream herself, even during her pregnancy.

However, she acknowledged that she should’ve been more cautious and tested the product thoroughly before selling. Beautrice also said she would take responsibility for the matter and left her contact information in the captions for customers to issue a refund. Towards the end of the video, the businesswoman bowed to the camera to express regret for her actions. Her husband and business partner also issued an apology regarding the matter.

Customers and netizens have since reacted to the apology video. However, many expressed disappointment at Beautrice’s apology, calling it insincere. Some said it’s as if she memorised a script and isn’t truly sorry for the issue. Some also voiced scepticism towards her claims that she uses the Molly Care night cream, arguing that many users have suffered skin problems while her skin looks fine.

However, Beautrice revealed through Instagram Stories that her company has already begun issuing refunds to customers. While her apology might not be well-received, it’s good that the entrepreneur isn’t running away from her responsibilities. What are your thoughts on this?
