California firefighters are battling wind-whipped fires tearing across Los Angeles as tens of thousands of citizens evacuate their homes. Earlier today (9th January 2025, Thursday, Malaysian time), a state of emergency was declared, with the blaze rapidly growing across 2,900 acres of land in the city.
The LA wildfire has destroyed thousands of buildings, including homes, schools and businesses. Many celebrities also reportedly lost their homes to the fire. Hollywood events have also been cancelled and delayed in light of the matter. Here’s a rundown of what happened following the fire:

Oscar 2025 Nominations, Critics’ Choice Awards & More Events Delayed


Hollywood’s award season sees scheduling changes as several events announce new dates following the fire. The nomination announcements for Oscars 2025 have been moved to 19th January (Sunday) from its initial 17th January (Friday) air date, while the Critics’ Choice Awards 2025 is now re-scheduled for 26th January (Sunday). A BAFTA tea party was also postponed, while the Screen Actors Guild Award 2025 nominations have cancelled its live broadcast.
Celebrities Devasted After Losing Homes


The Pacific Palisades area of Los Angeles is known to be the residential area of some of Hollywood’s biggest stars. As such, many lost their homes due to the wildfire, including actor Billy Crystal, who lost his home of 45 years. Singer Mandy Moore and media personality Paris Hilton also lost their homes in Altadena and Malibu. Other stars whose homes were devastated by the fire include Leighton Meester, Adam Brody, Miles Teller, Heidi Montag, Spencer Pratt and Jamie Lee Curtis.
