Even if you’re not into the world of fashion, you’re probably aware about hype surrounding the Met Gala. It is regarded as one of the most highly anticipated prestigious fashion events where celebrities get to show off their outstanding outfits of the theme and dress code.
This year, we saw a lot of new faces attending the glamorous fashion ball and one of those new faces happens to be K-pop boy group Stray Kids (스트레이 키즈)! Not only was this the group’s first time attending the Met Gala but their appearance also made them the first-ever K-pop group to attend the esteemed exhibition!

Ever since the Met Gala announced the theme “The Garden of Time” for this year, many have been looking forward to see who will be attending and what they will be wearing. Earlier today (Tuesday, 7th May), Stray Kids posted a video on their official Instagram page to share that they were all getting ready to attend this year’s Met Gala and that each member will be wearing pieces by Tommy Hilfiger.
As seen in the photos above, the members have made their debut on the green carpet sporting colour-coordinated suits that made them look like they came straight out of a royal romance fairytale. During an interview with Vogue, leader Bang Chan (방찬) revealed that they were personally invited by Tommy Hilfiger to attend the event with him.
“They’re global superstars, they’re a K-pop band that packed stadiums with 80 thousand people and have a wild fanbase all over the world,” Tommy explained why he invited the popular group. One of the highlights of the interview was when the fashion designer accidentally spoiled the group’s plans of embarking on a 40-city world tour. This is evident from Bang Chan and Han (한)’s reaction to the statement. Guess the cat’s out of the bag!

Regardless, many of Stray Kids’s fans were excited to see the boys making history by attending the prestigious gala and are looking forward to hearing more updates on their upcoming tour! Now you might be thinking, “Wasn’t BLACKPINK the first K-pop group to attend the Met Gala last year?”. The answer to that question is both yes and no.
Only members Jennie (김제니) and Rosé (로제) attended last year’s exhibition while Lisa and Jisoo were nowhere to be seen. Plus, the two singers were not attending as BLACKPINK but with their own individual brands. Due to this, Stray Kids quite literally made history by being the first-ever K-pop act to attend the Met Gala as a group with every member present.
