As one of the most successful K-pop groups in the music scene today, BTS (방탄소년단) has garnered significant amount of acclaim and a massive fan following worldwide. Of course, their journey to the pinnacle of success has been filled with some challenges and obstacles.

The group’s rapper Suga talked about a crisis that most fans never knew before. During the recent episode of his YouTube show “Suchwita”, Suga and fellow member J-Hope recalled the time during their time at their first dorm at 9-8 Nonhyeong-dong.

BTS fans who have been following the group since their early days are aware that they once resided in a compact apartment, which reportedly measured a total of 56 sq.m. In fact, Suga also recreated his old dorm in the music video of his song “Amygdala” to depict his trainee days, when he suffered a tragic car accident while working as a delivery boy.

Little did the ARMYs know, the boys almost got kicked out of that dorm prior to debuting. According to the “Daechwita” hit maker, the situation was difficult at that time, and the agency, Big Hit Music, had completely ran out of money. Though the lineup of BTS members was kept intact, they were asked to return home because the company could no longer afford to pay for their accommodation.

Big Hit had come clean to the members about the predicament and even told them to find new places to live on their own. However, the members didn’t have that kind of money either. Furthermore, J-Hope also remembered how the BTS members refused to leave despite the company’s request. Suga also added that he, J-Hope and RM took a hard stance and declared, “We can’t move out of this dorm.” Fortunately, the then-small agency received a final investment as a result of the team’s perseverance, allowing BTS to make their K-pop debut.

Thinking back at their passionate youth, Suga pondered what had gotten them through so many hardships in the past. According to J-Hope, all seven of them were brought together, thanks to their former CEO, Bang Si Hyuk. The challenges of those times allowed BTS to develop into the global stars they are today, and BIGHIT MUSIC could also into HYBE Labels, one of the largest entertainment labels in South Korea.
