What Kind Of Site Should You Build?

Thousands of people are making great money doing internet marketing. Hundreds of thousands more want to. I have no idea how many people enter the internet marketing arena each day, but I bet there are thousands!

Most of them fail within a few months.

Most of these failures could be avoided, especially if these would be marketers knew a few basics about the business. One of the most fundamental basics is what type of site you’re going to build to make money.

The basic equation of internet marketing is this: Traffic X Conversions = Money!

Your first job as an internet marketer is to get traffic. Only then can you work on getting that traffic to make money for you.

You get traffic in two basic ways. You wait for it to come to you, usually via a search engine search. Or, you take some kind of action that forces the traffic to come to you–article marketing and pay per click advertising are two examples.

If your site is going to get traffic from search engines, then you need to have a lot of great, keyword focused content that ranks highly on search engine results for various keyword phrases. You attract traffic with content like plants attract bees with flowers.

Once you get that traffic, you need to make money out of it. AdSense is a good way to do this with a content site. But that’s not the only way to make money out of these.

You can also sell affiliate products, and even make your own product.

The only real problem with content sites is it’s somewhat difficult to capture your visitor’s email addresses and build a list. If you’ve been around internet marketing for any length of time, then I’m sure you’ve heard that the money is in the list.

That’s really, absolutely true! The money is in the list!

Some people try to add newsletters sign up boxes or ebook giveaway boxes to their content sites hoping people volunteer to give you their email addresses. But in my experience, that doesn’t work very well. You would have to have a flood of traffic to harvest even a few email addresses.

The other way to run a web site is to restrict access to your site by putting what we call a squeeze page between the visitor and your site. A squeeze page is basically a page with an opt-in form on it that the visitor needs to enter their email address into before they’re allowed to view your content on your website.

Now, there are a ton of ways to do this. But I think you get the idea. By forcing your visitors to give you their email addresses in order to get what they want, which is your content, you build a list that you can market to.
