In addition to the official announcement of its upcoming Ryzen 9000 Series desktop CPU lineup, AMD also announced its next-gen Ryzen AI mobile processor lineup, otherwise known for the longest time as Strix Point.

The long awaited next-generation Ryzen AI CPUs confirms several points that it was originally rumoured to be built on, chief among which is the next-generation Zen5 CPU architecture, which is also built on TSMC’s 4nm process node, technically speaking.

Beyond Zen5, 3rd generation Ryzen AI also houses the new and more powerful XDNA2 NPU. Compared to the NPUs in previous generation Ryzen mobile processors, the new component has a peak performance of 50 TOPS, which is more powerful that either Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Series or Intel’s recently launched Lunar Lake mobile processors. Further, the maximum number of cores and threads have been bumped up, from 8-cores, 16-threads, to 12-cores, 24-threads.

Another point of confirmation for the new Ryzen AI mobile processors is AMD’s use of RDNA3.5 inside, which is basically an updated version of RDNA3. While AMD didn’t give intricate details, but it did say that the integrated GPU cores will house up to 16 Compute Units.

This is the mobile processor that features the 12-cores, 24-threads configuration, has a 5.1GHz max boost clock, a combined L2 and L3 Cache size of 36MB, and a Radeon 890M integrated GPU.

The second processor, the Ryzen AI 9 365, is one tier lower and comes with a 10-cores, 20-threads configuration, a 5GHz max boost clock, a combined cache size of 34MB, and a Radeon 880M integrated GPU. Regardless of model, both mobile processors are fitted with an XDNA2 NPU with a peak performance of 50 TOPS.

The first laptops powered by AMD’s 3rd Generation Ryzen AI mobile processors are expected to hit the shelves starting next month, which also means the brand will be going up against the likes of Intel and its Lunar Lake-powered laptops and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Series-powered machines.
