PETALING JAYA: A former police sergeant has been fined RM8,000 by the Kuala Lumpur sessions court for accepting a RM6,000 bribe to not take action against a man over a molestation case two years ago.
Judge Suzana Hussin meted out the punishment on Nur Mastisha Maidinsha, 39, after she changed her initial plea to guilty, reported Harian Metro.
Nur Mastisha, formerly an assistant investigating officer at the Kuala Lumpur police’s sexual, women and child investigation division, was also ordered to be jailed 40 days if she failed to pay the fine.
She was charged with accepting RM6,000 in cash from the man at the Kuala Lumpur police headquarters and a petrol station in Cheras on Oct 1 and 12, 2022, despite knowing that the man was connected with her official functions as a police officer.
The charge under Section 165 of the Penal Code provides for up to two years’ jail, a fine, or both upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutor Nurul Atiqah Alias prosecuted while Nur Mastisha was not represented.
