Even from a distance – because their release dates are years away – we can tell that these movies are gonna be epic!

It is no surprise that James Gunn will be helming DC’s cinematic universe moving forward. Along with this are a few changes, namely in the cast and line-up of future movies. Almost everyone from the previous era of live-action DC superhero films has been let go and replaced, save for a select few, like Jason Momoa. Though he isn’t King of Atlantis anymore, he is now, instead, the psychopathic and sadistic bounty hunter, Lobo.

For those who aren’t familiar with the character, you can easily be forgiven, as he has yet to make his cinematic debut on the live-action scene. To bring you up to speed, Lobo is an antihero known (and loved) for his violent and irreverent personality. Coming from the planet Czarnia, Lobo has superhuman strength, regenerative abilities, and invulnerability, which he has used to great effect to beat Superman several times in the past. He is also virtually immortal, as he can only be killed by members of his own species, hence why he wiped them out as a teenager. And even if he were to die, he is banned from entering heaven and hell for wiping out the majority of angels and demons.

To say he is a nutjob would be an understatement, but it’s not hard to see why fans love his crude personality – something Momoa adores about the character. He has been very vocal about his attachment to Lobo and how he has simply been dying to portray him. In fact, he’s doubled down on this on Instagram, where he screenshotted comments he made from a past interview.

“I collect comics, and I don’t do so much anymore, but it was always my favourite, and I always wanted to play Lobo, because I’m like, ‘Hello? It’s the perfect role,’” said the actor. Momoa went on to say that should DC come around asking him to play Lobo, it would be “a f*ck yeah.” Alongside this post was the caption “They called.”

Naturally, at this stage of the filming process, a lot of details are kept on the down low. But what we do know is that House of the Dragon’s Milly Alcock will be playing the titular Supergirl. Another tidbit is that Matthias Schoenaerts will be playing Krem of the Yellow Hill, the main antagonist of the 2021-2022 comic miniseries “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.” It has also been confirmed that Eve Ridley will play Ruthye Marye Knoll, Supergirl’s allies who help take down Krem.

The film will be directed by Craig Gillespie, with Ana Nogueira writing the script. And if the characters haven’t clued you in on it yet, the story will be based on the aforementioned comic miniseries that was originally written by Tom King. Film production will start on 13th January with Gunn, Peter Safran, and Chantal Nong producing the film, the latter of the three being an executive producer.

Nolan To Adapt Greek Epic “Odyssey”

Out of all the names on the directing side of Hollywood, there is none bigger than Christopher Nolan. The legendary director has worked on a multitude of hits, from tear-jerking sci-fi epics to comic action films and historic tragedies. Since his latest creation, “Oppenheimer,” fans have been speculating on what Nolan’s next masterpiece will be.

Well, the wait is over, as Universal Pictures confirmed that the next epic is a myth, a Greek myth. Yes, outside of the “Trojan War” and “Iliad” itself, Homer’s “Odyssey” is one of the cornerstones and most famous mythological tales in the entire world, something the newly knighted director wishes to tackle.

Universal Pictures broke the news on X, stating that “Christopher Nolan’s next film ‘The Odyssey’ is a mythic action epic shot across the world using brand new IMAX film technology. The film brings Homer’s foundational saga to IMAX film screens for the first time and opens in theaters everywhere on July 17, 2026.”

For those who haven’t brushed up on their myths, “Odyssey” follows the story of Odysseus, King of Ithaca, on his long and dangerous adventure home from the Trojan War. It is a gruesome voyage that sees him get lost at sea for 20 years, struggling against all manner of entities, from cyclops and sirens to Scylla and Charybdis, and even the Greek Gods themselves.

What’s most intriguing about the announcement is the mention of new IMAX technology, which might let us see all those creatures in this crazy adventure in a whole new light. Pair this up with Nolan’s eye for detail and authenticity, and we simply can’t wait to see how this will pan out in 2026.

Besides the date, we also have a list of star-studded names that are coming along for the ride. They include, but are not limited to, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Matt Damon, Robert Pattinson, Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong’o, and Charlize Theron. However, it has not been confirmed what role they will play just yet.

Funnily enough, the announcement coincided with the release of the final chapter of a recent concept musical that has been blowing up on TikTok and other social media platforms. Titled “EPIC: The Musical,” the theatrical play also tackles Odysseus and his journey home – with a lot of music. It is safe to say that Greek myth lovers are eating well this year; who knows, maybe these two coinciding might boost each other’s performance in the future.
