PETALING JAYA: Pejuang Youth chief Abu Hafiz Salleh Hudin says there is a major push from the party grassroots and mid-level leadership for the party to review its membership in Gerakan Tanah Air (GTA) following its dismal performance in the 15th general election.
Apart from a review of its membership in GTA, Abu Hafiz said there was also pressure from the grassroots for the party to consider working with a political coalition that shared its aspirations so that it could play a role in the country’s evolving politics post-GE15.
“GTA’s devastating loss (in GE15) under the Pejuang banner, to the extent of losing the election deposits, should make the party take a good look at itself,” he said in a statement.
“(The party’s) experience in the Johor state elections earlier this year has yet to result in the party making decisions and strategies that bear fruit.
“Everyone should feel this sense of responsibility, including the leadership of Pejuang Youth.”
His statement comes in the wake of GTA’s announcement that it would continue working on getting itself registered as an official political coalition.
The party’s candidates – including its chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad – lost in all 125 seats in GE15. All the candidates lost their election deposits.
Earlier this year, the party had a disastrous debut in the Johor state elections when all of its 42 candidates failed to get elected and lost their election deposits.
