KUALA LUMPUR: The tourism, arts and culture ministry will hold a meeting to address concerns regarding check-in and check-out times at hotels.
Its minister, Tiong King Sing, said the issue has gained publicity in the media and comments from stakeholders and the public.
“The purpose of this meeting is to arrive at a fair solution that does not impose undue burden on customers.
“My priority is to ensure that the practices and policies adopted by hotels align with consumer interests while maintaining the sustainability of a competitive and viable hospitality sector,” he said in a statement last night.
Tiong, who is attending the United Nations World Tourism Organisation conference, said he would take part in the meeting when he returned home.
“The opinions and suggestions from all stakeholders will be taken into account to ensure that Malaysia’s hospitality industry remains competitive and customer-friendly,” he said.
Yesterday, the ministry said it was monitoring the check-in and check-out issue and advised the public to read and understand the terms and conditions imposed by hotels before making any reservation.
This follows a post by a social media user who complained that she could only check in at 4pm, and was told the check-out time was 11am, which triggered a debate on social media.
